"Will Divide Property" AI Fabricates Alain Delon for Online Scam
Distribution of Fake Image Videos Created by AI
Linked to Fake Google Store and Casino Sites
"By the time you watch this video, I will have already died."
A video of the recently deceased famous French actor Alain Delon saying he will distribute his fortune is spreading on social media. This is a fraudulent advertisement created with artificial intelligence (AI) using fake images, so caution is required.
On the 28th (local time), according to an X (formerly Twitter) account that tracks online scams, a video promoting an online casino site featuring Alain Delon has been circulating on Facebook, Yonhap News reported on the same day.
In the video, Delon appears in a suit and says, "By the time you watch this video, I will have already died," and offers, "If you don't win at my online casino, I will give you 100,000 euros (about 140 million KRW)." He also says, "I have decided to share part of my money with all French people, and I think it is the right thing to do," adding, "Anyone can receive 4,000 euros (about 5.9 million KRW) from day one."
Delon then encourages viewers to charge money into their accounts and start playing, saying his daughter has already launched an online casino application. The video includes a link that, when clicked, leads to a fake site mimicking the Google Play Store, followed by a fake application called 'Casino Delon.' According to the daily Le Figaro, downloading this application can lead to the leakage of users' personal and banking information, causing financial damage.
The appearance and voice of Delon in the scam casino advertisement video closely resemble the real Delon, but all of this is fabricated by AI. Victor Baisat, an AI scam expert, told the daily Le Parisien, "Cases of using celebrity images for scams are increasing," and added, "Earlier in March, a video promoting a casino featuring French football star Kylian Mbapp? also circulated."
He pointed out, "Scammers pay Meta to distribute such advertisements, and the fact that they continue to post ads is proof that this kind of scam is effective," adding, "Social media platforms are effectively neglecting this."
