An 80-Year-Old Indicted and Detained for Falsely Accusing Parents Who Reported Sexual Harassment of False Charges
An 80-year-old man who sexually assaulted a child and then falsely accused the child's parents of filing a false report has been indicted and will stand trial in detention.
On the 28th, the Criminal Division 2 of the Cheonan Branch of the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Kim Jongpil) announced that the 80-year-old man, identified as A, has been indicted and detained on charges including forcible molestation and false accusation.
According to the prosecution, in December last year, A is accused of forcibly molesting B, the 7-year-old daughter of a restaurant owner, by touching her body while drinking at a restaurant in Cheonan, South Chungcheong Province.
When B's mother reported the incident and an investigation was launched, A retaliated by causing a disturbance at the restaurant and also filed a police complaint accusing B's mother of making a false accusation.
Based on the police investigation, an arrest warrant for A was requested, but the court rejected the warrant, citing A's advanced age and lack of flight risk.
After taking over the case, the prosecution supplemented the case with additional evidence of the victim's suffering, added the charge of false accusation against A, and re-applied for an arrest warrant, which was granted on the 26th.
A prosecution official stated, "We have also made efforts to protect the victim, including supporting psychological treatment for the child," and added, "We will do our best to ensure that A receives punishment commensurate with his crime."
