Uljugun Holds First Rice Harvest of the Year, Praying for a Bountiful Season
County Governor Lee Sungul Harvests First Rice in Duseo-myeon Fields
On the 28th, Ulsan's Ulju County held the "2024 First Rice Harvest Event" in Sinjeon fields, Duseo-myeon, with County Governor Lee Sungul and local farmers in attendance.
This event was a meaningful occasion to celebrate the fruits of local farmers' hard work and effort. It marked the first rice harvest of the year, grown despite challenging weather conditions such as record-breaking heatwaves and droughts, and was held to wish for a bountiful harvest for the year.
During the event, early-maturing premium rice was harvested from a 23,190-square-meter paddy field owned by Choi Hyunsik (47), a resident of Duseo-myeon, Ulju County.
The early-maturing premium rice, a variety developed by Dubuk Agricultural Cooperative, is not only known for its excellent taste but also helps distribute the labor load for farmers, as transplanting in April allows for harvesting by the end of August, before Chuseok. Additionally, early harvesting enables the sowing of secondary crops such as barley, increasing the utilization of farmland.
Governor Lee Sungul said, "This year's first rice harvest event was a meaningful time to witness the results of farmers who did not give up and worked hard despite difficult weather conditions," and added, "With hopes for a bountiful harvest, we will continue to make every effort and provide support to increase farmers' income and stabilize rice prices."
