Jin Gisa: "No Chance for Enemy Surprise Infiltration" ... Rapid Response to Any Threat
The Jinhae Naval Base Command (hereafter referred to as 'Jingisa') conducted integrated port and base defense training at the Jinhae naval port as part of the Ulchi Freedom Shield (UFS) exercise, preparing for surprise infiltration by enemy forces via sea and land.
The training, held on the 27th, was designed to master crisis response procedures for potential enemy infiltration within Jingisa's operational responsibility area and to strengthen the capability to conduct integrated port and base defense operations.
In particular, this exercise included a scenario in which an unidentified drone infiltrated the base, allowing participants to master procedures for responding to aerial threats and establish an integrated defense system covering land, sea, and air. The reporting method, which previously relied on surrounding terrain features, was improved by using internal coordinates within the base during defense operations, enabling more accurate location sharing and enhancing operational performance.
Approximately 60 personnel from Jingisa's port defense squadron, ground security battalion, base defense battalion, and CBRN support unit, along with four patrol vessels, participated in the exercise. The training was divided into a maritime exercise, which involved intercepting unidentified high-speed vessels attempting to infiltrate by sea, and a base defense exercise, which involved detecting and eliminating enemy forces infiltrating on land after reconnaissance with a drone.
The maritime exercise simulated a scenario in which enemy forces attempted to infiltrate by sea, with Jingisa patrol vessels detecting, intercepting, and neutralizing unidentified high-speed boats trying to enter the naval port.
Jingisa detected an unidentified vessel maneuvering at high speed from a school of fish toward the naval port and immediately deployed maritime security forces while attempting to communicate. When the vessel ignored the order to stop and continued moving, warning shots were fired. As the vessel turned and tried to escape to open waters, Jingisa patrol vessels, together with the Coast Guard and other nearby security forces, established a blockade and successfully captured the vessel after a pursuit.
On land, after receiving intelligence suggesting a high possibility of infiltration by enemy special forces, security forces were reinforced along expected infiltration routes and throughout the entire Jinhae area, conducting a thorough defense operation.
Through this exercise, Jingisa mastered procedures for coordinated operations among multiple standby units and, by integrating naval and ground forces in the Jinhae area during the process of searching, tracking, and neutralizing enemy forces, further strengthened practical integrated port and base defense capabilities.
Lieutenant Colonel Kim Su-gyeong, commander of Jingisa's base defense battalion, said, "Through this training, which involved all of Jingisa's forces, we were able to enhance teamwork among unit members and gain confidence in performing our missions," adding, "We will continue to conduct realistic training so that security forces on the ground can respond proactively to various situations in the future."
