POSCO DX announced on the 28th that it held the '2024 AI Youth Challenge' at its Pangyo office.
Now in its fifth year, the challenge is a competition showcasing creative ideas and AI development capabilities under the theme "A warmer and brighter world created by AI for a better society." POSCO DX co-hosted the event with the Korea Intelligent Information Industry Association, with support from the Ministry of Education.
This year, a total of 221 teams and 551 participants applied for the competition. The ideas from the 221 teams underwent two rounds of evaluation, and six teams were selected as finalists. The six finalist teams received one month of technical mentoring from POSCO DX AI engineers and mentors from the Seoul National University AI Institute, during which they implemented their ideas into tangible forms and produced prototypes. The winning team was determined through demonstrations and presentations of the completed products. The judging panel consisted of professors from Seoul National University, KAIST, and POSTECH, as well as a POSCO DX employee judging committee.
The grand prize, the Minister of Education Award, was awarded to students Lee Jae-seok, Son Eun-gyu, and Jung Eun-kyo from Seongil Information High School (team name Digital AIchemist) for their product 'Sign GPT,' which converts sign language into text or speech for the hearing impaired. The POSCO DX President’s Award went to Kang Min-seo from Yongin Hankuk Academy of Foreign Studies High School (team name Picture Vision) for their AI hat designed exclusively for the visually impaired. The Korea Artificial Intelligence Industry Association President’s Award was given to Han Seok-hee, Moon Seung-heon, and Oh Jin-hoo from Cheongshim International Academy (team name Drice) for their intelligent road management solution.
