These are Korean language education programs designed to encourage young people to improve their language skills on their own and to foster a proper language culture.
About forty current KBS announcers will participate in the former program. Starting with Dongyang Middle School in Seoul, they will visit over 100 elementary and middle schools nationwide to raise awareness about discriminatory language habits that are easily encountered during adolescence. Additionally, they will help young people, who have become accustomed to non-face-to-face communication due to COVID-19, to use proper communication methods and expressions.
Lee Haedon, Director of Cultural Policy at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, explained, "As the human and cultural diversity of Korean society increases, we plan to conduct language education that keeps pace with social changes."
The latter program, starting next month, involves group inquiry activities using a performance assessment method. Young people will select topics related to easy and proper Korean language usage and be supported in exploring various linguistic phenomena.
