Warm Donations, Happy Sharing... Yeongdeungpo-gu Supports Vulnerable Groups to Stay Healthy During the Heatwave
Comprehensive Protection Support Measures for Elderly and Low-Income Vulnerable Groups Amid Continuous Heatwave
Cooling Cost Payments, Installation of Shade Screens, Expansion of Energy Voucher Support for Low-Income Vulnerable Groups
Adding Vitality to Summer with Warm Hands through Donations of Air Conditioners, Fans, and Nutritional Foods
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it is implementing various support measures to alleviate the cooling cost burden on vulnerable groups and help them have a healthy summer amid the record-breaking heatwave continuing into late summer.
First, the district is easing the financial burden on vulnerable groups through cooling cost support. A total of about 11,000 households, including basic livelihood security recipients and near-poverty groups, were given 50,000 KRW each for cooling expenses. This special cooling cost support was provided to vulnerable groups who hesitate to operate air conditioners due to economic difficulties.
Along with this, the district is enhancing efficiency improvements to reduce energy costs through the ‘Air Conditioner Outdoor Unit Shade Installation Support.’ The air conditioner shade is known to block sunlight, increase cooling efficiency, and help reduce electricity bills. Especially this year, the support target was expanded not only to vulnerable groups but also to general residents, supporting the installation of shades for a total of 2,000 households, thereby realizing ‘energy welfare.’
In line with this, the amount of the ‘Energy Voucher’ support, which covers the purchase costs of electricity and local cooling, has also been increased from the previous 10,000 KRW to 15,000 KRW.
Meanwhile, warm donations from various parts of society are contributing to cool sharing. On the 14th, with the sponsorship of Maison Edu (CEO Nam Taek-su), an education specialist company, air conditioners were installed free of charge for 18 vulnerable households living in poor conditions such as small rooms, semi-basements, and rooftops in Yeongdeungpo-bon-dong.
Also, in connection with the local community security council, cooling supplies (fans) were provided to 152 low-income households with a sponsorship fund of 10 million KRW from HMG Global (CEO Han Jong-seok).
In addition, donations of nutritional foods, health supplements, and daily necessities have continued from various companies.

Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, said, “Support for air conditioner electricity bills and warm hands from all over the community will greatly help vulnerable groups, such as residents of small-room villages who are struggling due to the heatwave, to spend the summer healthily. We will carefully identify neighbors in crisis not only from heatwaves but also in other situations and connect them with various welfare resources in the community.”
