Southeast Region Nuclear Medical Center Holds 'Melody of Hope' Concert for Cancer Patients
Accordionist Kim Nahye, Breast Cancer Survivor, Invited
Offers Comfort and Support Through Music, Empathizing With Anxiety
The 397th Hope Concert, hosted by the Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences (Director Changhoon Lee), was held in the institute's lobby on the 21st.
This concert was a talent donation performance organized after accordion player Kim Nahye, who recovered her health after breast cancer treatment at the institute, expressed her wish to comfort and encourage cancer patients.
The performance lasted about 30 minutes and featured two accordion pieces, two guitar pieces, two janggu (Korean drum) performances, and three songs, all set to the melodies of trot songs such as "Tears of Mokpo," "Harbor of the Land," and "Barley Hill." The patients responded with heartfelt applause to the passionate performances.
On this day, Taeyin Yoon, the head of the breast disease surgery department and Kim Nahye's primary physician, also attended in person to show support and brighten the event.
Kim Nahye told the patients who came to enjoy the concert, "I was diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer five years ago, so I know very well the anxiety and fear you are feeling. From that time, I started learning the accordion, and through comfort performances and volunteering, I gradually healed both physically and mentally. I want to encourage you not to be discouraged just because you are cancer patients; you can enjoy social life and hobbies as much as you want. In fact, joy has a great healing effect, so I hope you spend your days smiling and having fun."
