Increasing Release of Endangered Species... Hyundai Mobis Employees Participate in Ecological Conservation Activities

On the 26th, Hyundai Mobis announced that over 200 employees and local residents from Jincheon-gun, Chungbuk, released 3,000 endangered Miho stone loaches into the Miho River area. This effort aims to restore endangered wildlife, secure biodiversity, and create an environmentally friendly ecosystem.

The release event was held in collaboration with the company, local governments, the Hangang Social Cooperative, and the Korea Freshwater Fish Conservation Association. Since 2012, the company has invested 10 billion KRW to create an eco-friendly ecological forest near Chopyeongho Lake in Jincheon-gun, which was donated to the local community.

On the day of the event, participants released the Miho stone loaches at three different points along the Miho River. They agreed to continuously monitor the restoration of the population. The Miho stone loach is a natural monument and a first-class endangered wild fish species of the Cobitidae family, found only in the Miho River in Korea. Earlier this May, 30 broodstock fish were secured to increase the population. With breeding permission from the Cultural Heritage Administration, 3,000 fry measuring approximately 3 to 5 cm were bred over 100 days at a habitat conservation facility.

The company stated that this is not a one-time event but part of a mid- to long-term social contribution activity, with plans to continue release efforts for the next five years. They also intend to carry out various conservation activities to have the area registered as an international Ramsar wetland.
