Concert Film of Singer Lim Young-woong Ranks No.1 in Ticket Sales
The American SF blockbuster movie 'Alien: Romulus' topped the box office in its opening weekend, surpassing new Korean film releases during the Liberation Day holiday.
According to the Korea Film Council's integrated ticket sales network on the 19th, over the past weekend (16th-18th), 'Alien: Romulus' (directed by Fede Alvarez) attracted 441,226 viewers, securing the number one spot at the box office. Its revenue share was 27.9%. Since its release on the 14th, the film has recorded a cumulative audience of 697,634.
In second place was the comedy film 'Pilot' (directed by Kim Han-gyeol), starring actor Jo Jung-suk, which drew 384,170 viewers. Released on the 31st of last month, the film has so far attracted 3,886,388 viewers.
Ahead of the extended holiday from Liberation Day (August 15) through the weekend, 12 films were released on the 14th of this month. Amidst this unusual competition, new Korean films struggled to gain traction. Among the films released that day, 'Land of Happiness' (directed by Chu Chang-min), adapted from the trials of those involved in the October 26 incident, attracted 222,590 viewers, ranking third. The Hollywood disaster film 'Twisters' (directed by Jung Isaac) drew 147,691 viewers, placing fourth.
The domestic animated film 'Love's Hatchuping' gathered 125,369 viewers, ranking fifth. Released on the 7th, it has firmly captured children and parent audiences, accumulating 671,255 viewers. 'Victory' (directed by Park Beom-su), starring Lee Hye-ri, formerly of the girl group Girl's Day, remained in sixth place with 90,348 viewers during its opening weekend. Seventh place was 'Despicable Me 4' (43,816 viewers), followed by 'Inside Out 2' (26,820 viewers) in eighth place. The total number of moviegoers over the weekend was recorded at 1,648,255.

The box office rankings are expected to remain largely unchanged for the time being. As of 10 a.m. on the day, real-time reservation rates showed singer Lim Young-woong's Seoul concert film 'Lim Young-woong | I'm Hero The Stadium' leading with 31.3% (85,799 viewers), followed by 'Alien: Romulus' at 9.1% (24,959 viewers) in second place.
