Former Dongbu Regional Forest Service Chief Sim Sang-taek Appointed as New Chairman Hansu Jeong
Sim Sang-taek, former head of the Eastern Regional Forest Service, has been appointed as the new chairman of the Korea National Arboretum and Garden Management Agency (hereinafter referred to as Hansujeong).
Hansujeong announced on the 13th that Chairman Sim (3rd term) held an inauguration ceremony at the National Sejong Arboretum.
Chairman Sim began his public service career in 1991 and has been with the Korea Forest Service for over 30 years. During his tenure, he held key positions such as head of the Eastern Regional Forest Service, Director of Forest Protection, Director of Forest Industry Policy, and Director of Forest Welfare, gaining extensive expertise in forest administration.
In his inaugural speech, Chairman Sim stated, “We will solidly carry out the agency’s core tasks, including in-situ and ex-situ conservation of forest biological resources, promotion of garden culture and industry, contributing to national policy goals such as climate change response and enhancement of forest biodiversity.” He added, “The public-private ESG cooperation projects promoted by Hansujeong as a platform institution for arboretums and gardens will play a role in driving coexistence and development among the public, local communities, and private enterprises.”

Meanwhile, Hansujeong is a public institution under the Korea Forest Service, established in 2017. Currently, Hansujeong operates three national arboretums representing different climate and vegetation zones: the National Baekdudaegan Arboretum, the National Sejong Arboretum, and the National Korean Native Plant Arboretum.
