"Nationwide Expansion of Paper Carton Recycling in Daycare Centers" CJ Logistics Partners with Gyeongnam Province
Collecting Children's Daycare Paper Packs through CJ Logistics Delivery Network for Recycling
A resource circulation project is being promoted to collect paper packs such as milk cartons and sterilized packs from daycare centers nationwide through CJ Logistics' delivery network and transport them to recycling facilities.
On the 6th, CJ Logistics announced that it signed a resource circulation business agreement with six organizations, including Gyeongsangnam-do Province, the Gyeongnam Daycare Center Association, the Korea Recycling Resource Distribution Support Center, CJ Freshway, and the Korea Packaging Recycling Business Cooperative.
Accordingly, paper packs discharged from about 1,800 daycare centers in the Gyeongnam area will be collected through CJ Logistics' delivery network and delivered to recycling facilities. CJ Freshway will install separate paper pack collection bins and conduct resource circulation education, while the Gyeongnam Daycare Center Association will encourage daycare centers to participate. The Korea Recycling Resource Distribution Support Center and the Recycling Business Cooperative will be responsible for collecting and sorting the paper packs, and Gyeongsangnam-do Province will provide administrative support for smooth project implementation.
With this agreement, the number of daycare centers participating in paper pack resource circulation will expand to about 10,000 nationwide. Previously, CJ Logistics conducted this project targeting about 8,000 daycare centers in Daegu, Busan, Pohang last year, and Seoul this year.
Although paper packs are made from high-quality pulp resources, they are mostly disposed of as general waste paper because they are not separated from other paper. According to the Ministry of Environment, the recycling rate of paper packs last year was 12.7%, which is half of the mandatory recycling rate of 26.8%. The Ministry of Environment estimates that if paper pack recycling reaches 100%, it would have the effect of planting 1.3 million 20-year-old trees annually.
