Jo Young-jae Advances to 25m Rapid Fire Pistol Final... Korea's Shooting Team Aims for Most Medals [Paris Olympics]
Jo Young-jae, a rapid-fire pistol shooter from South Korea (Korea Armed Forces Athletic Corps), advances to the final to compete for a medal.
On the 4th (local time), Jo Young-jae scored a total of 586 points in the 25m rapid-fire pistol qualification round at the 2024 Paris Olympics held at the Ch?teauroux Shooting Center in France, ranking 4th out of 29 competitors.
The rapid-fire pistol qualification consists of two stages, each with 30 shots. A total of 60 shots are fired, with a perfect score of 600 points. Each stage ends after two series of 15 shots, where 5 shots are fired within 8 seconds, 6 seconds, and 4 seconds respectively.
In the first stage, Jo Young-jae scored 100 points in the 8-second series, 100 points in the 6-second series, and 97 points in the 4-second series, totaling 297 points and ranking 1st overall. However, in the second stage, he scored 99 points in the 8-second series, 97 points in the 6-second series, and 93 points in the 4-second series.
His combined score of 586 points was the same as Italy's Massimo Spinella, who ranked 5th in the qualification, but Jo led 4th place with a 22-19 advantage in the number of X tens.
Jo Young-jae will challenge for a medal in the final, which will be held at 4:30 PM Korean time on the 5th. South Korean shooting has so far won 3 gold medals and 2 silver medals. If Jo wins a medal in the rapid-fire pistol event, it will surpass the record set at the 2012 London Olympics (3 gold medals, 2 silver medals), marking the best performance in history.
