Extinguishing Operations Underway
A large fire broke out at the S-Oil Onsan plant in Ulju-gun, Ulsan, and firefighters are currently working to extinguish it. So far, no casualties have been reported.
According to the Fire Agency on the 28th, a fire report was received at 4:47 a.m., and firefighters were dispatched within 11 minutes. The fire department issued Response Level 1 at 4:58 a.m. and escalated it to Response Level 2 at 5:21 a.m. to carry out firefighting operations.
The fire department stated that they have currently shut off the production line valves and are incinerating the remaining hazardous materials inside the pipelines. Due to the nature of the petrochemical plant handling, all fuels inside the process must be completely burned, so it is expected to take some time before the fire is fully extinguished.
