Hanul Nuclear Power Plant Unit 3 Sets New Domestic Record with 4,880 Days of Longest Continuous Operation Without Failure
Approximately 67-Day Scheduled Preventive Maintenance Begins
Hanul Nuclear Power Headquarters (Director Lee Seyong) announced, "Hanul Unit 3 (OPR1000, Pressurized Water Reactor, 1 million kW class), a Korean Standard Nuclear Power Plant, has achieved the nation's first 10 consecutive cycles of One Cycle Trouble Free (OCTF) operation."
Hanul Unit 3, which utilizes domestically developed technology, set a new record for the longest continuous operation among domestic nuclear power plants, achieving 4,880 days from July 25, 2008, to July 27, 2024, excluding planned preventive maintenance periods.
One Cycle Trouble Free operation (OCTF) refers to stable, uninterrupted plant operation from the point of grid connection after completion of planned preventive maintenance until the next grid separation for subsequent maintenance.
This is a representative indicator that demonstrates the safety and technical capabilities of nuclear power plant operation, including maintenance, operation, and management skills. This achievement is the result of continuous efforts to enhance operational capability, such as ongoing facility improvements and timely replacement of major equipment. In addition, by applying best practices from earlier units and internationally recognized latest technical standards, Hanul Unit 3 achieved the "longest continuous trouble-free operation record."
Hanul Unit 3 will begin its 18th planned preventive maintenance on July 27. Power generation will be halted at 10:00 a.m. on the 27th, and statutory inspections, fuel replacement, and facility checks in accordance with the Nuclear Safety Act will be conducted over approximately 67 days, with power generation expected to resume in October.
