'Repeated Drug Use' Former Baseball Player Oh Jae-won Sentenced to 2 Years and 6 Months in Prison in First Trial
Former professional baseball player and national team member Oh Jae-won (39), who was prosecuted on charges of drug use, was sentenced to prison in the first trial.
On the 26th, the Criminal Division 28 of the Seoul Central District Court (Chief Judge Han Dae-gyun) sentenced Oh, who was detained and prosecuted for violating the Narcotics Control Act (psychotropic substances) and other charges, to 2 years and 6 months in prison. Accomplice A was sentenced to 1 year in prison with a 2-year probation.
Oh was detained and prosecuted on charges of using methamphetamine 11 times between November 2022 and November 2023. He is also accused of storing about 0.4g of methamphetamine in a fire hydrant in the hallway of an acquaintance's apartment in April last year.
From January last year to March this year, he is also accused of receiving sleeping pills from nine acquaintances a total of 89 times or purchasing them by using acquaintances' names fraudulently. When A tried to report the drug use to the police, Oh threatened him by smashing his cellphone with a hammer and grabbing his collar.
