View original imagePresident Yoon Suk-yeol appointed Lee Sang-duk, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia, as the head of the Overseas Koreans Agency on the 25th.
The new head was born in 1960 and graduated from the Portuguese Department at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. He earned a master's degree in political science from Georgia State University in the United States.
He entered public service through the 22nd Foreign Service Examination. He is a seasoned diplomat who has served as Ambassador to Indonesia, Ambassador to Singapore, Director-General for Northeast Asia at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Minister-Counselor at the Embassy in China.

The Presidential Office described him as "having mainly worked in regions where many of our overseas Koreans reside, such as China and Southeast Asia, and possessing excellent negotiation and coordination skills acquired through a long diplomatic career," adding, "He is expected to contribute to the protection of overseas Koreans and the strengthening of exchange and cooperation with the homeland."
