Jeonnam Provincial Assembly Member Kim Jeong-hee Demands Expansion of Early Diagnosis for Borderline Intellectual Children
Jeonghee Kim, a member of the Jeonnam Provincial Assembly (Democratic Party of Korea·Suncheon 3), called for expanded support for early detection diagnostic tests for children with borderline intelligence during the first Education Committee business report of the 383rd Jeonnam Provincial Assembly temporary session on the 23rd.
'Borderline intellectual intelligence' refers to having an IQ between 70 and 85 and experiencing difficulties in daily life and learning. Students with borderline intellectual intelligence typically show challenges in adapting to school or everyday life.
Assembly member Kim stated, “In cases of language development disorders, if detected before the age of 6, they can be completely cured within six months. However, if detected after the age of 12, it requires years of treatment, resulting in enormous social costs.” She added, “The Office of Education should actively support universal screening for all elementary school entrants every year.”
