Seongbuk-gu Expands Heating and Cooling Cost Support for Low-Income Single-Parent Families in Blind Spots
Maximum support amount increased from 250,000 won to 350,000 won

Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) announced on the 18th that it will expand support for cooling and heating costs for low-income single-parent families in the blind spots of the Energy Voucher program.
The support targets low-income single-parent families in the district with children under the age of 6 (born after January 1, 2018) who are not recipients of basic livelihood security benefits. The support includes 70,000 KRW per household for cooling costs in July and August, and heating costs in January, February, and December, totaling 350,000 KRW over five payments.
The support amount has also been increased by 20,000 KRW. Last year, 50,000 KRW was provided per payment, but this year it has been raised to 70,000 KRW. Due to the ongoing heatwaves and cold waves, along with the rapid increase in energy prices, the difficulties faced by low-income single-parent families who do not benefit from the Energy Voucher program have grown, leading to the decision to expand support.
The "Cooling and Heating Cost Support for Low-Income Single-Parent Families in the Blind Spots of the Energy Voucher Program" is a project independently initiated and conducted by the district since 2019. Heating costs were supported for 34 households in January and February this year.

Mayor Lee Seung-ro said, "This support project is one that Seongbuk-gu started independently as Korea’s first UNICEF-certified child-friendly city to promote children's health and create a favorable environment for having and raising children," adding, "We decided to expand support amid ongoing heatwaves and cold waves and the rapid increase in energy prices."
