Employees who participated in the event visited the jjokbang village in person, delivered fans and daily necessities they had prepared, checked on the residents' well-being and health, and provided guidance on summer hygiene and health management.
Jjokbang refers to a type of housing where a low-rise building is divided into several small rooms. It is mainly inhabited by low-income individuals such as the elderly, people with disabilities, and those with chronic illnesses. The rooms are usually 3 to 6 square meters in size, making it difficult for heat to escape and thus making residents vulnerable to heatwaves. Currently, around 600 people live in jjokbangs in the Daegu area.
Seo Youngdae, Deputy Team Leader at Daesung Energy, said, "Seeing the jjokbangs in person, which I had only seen on TV, they appear even more vulnerable to heatwaves," and added, "I hope the items we distributed today will help protect the health of our neighbors who are struggling in the heat."
For the past 22 years, Daesung Energy, together with the Volunteer Capacity Development Center, has been contributing to the local community and practicing ESG management by participating in side dish sharing volunteer activities, the Jjokbang Coexistence Project, and the Kimchi Sharing of Love volunteer activities to support the self-reliance and welfare of jjokbang residents in Daegu.
