This event was organized to commemorate North Korean Defectors Day (July 14), which was designated as a national memorial day for the first time this year, with the aim of raising awareness and promoting the rights and inclusion of North Korean defectors, fostering a culture of integration between residents from the North and South, and building consensus for unification.
The ceremony included commemorative speeches, congratulatory remarks, and the sharing of personal stories, attended by more than 150 people including Deputy Mayor for Administrative Affairs Ahn Seungdae, National Assembly member Kim Kihyun, Vice Chair of the Ulsan Regional Council of the National Unification Advisory Council Choi Haesang, President of the North Korean Provinces Residents Association Lee Hyungchul, officials from related organizations, North Korean defectors, and their families.
