Gwangju and Jeonnam Issue First Heatwave Warning of the Year... Scorching Heat to Continue for a While
On the 5th, the first heatwave warning of the year was issued for Gwangju and some areas of Jeonnam.
The Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration announced that the heatwave advisory issued for Gwangju and three counties in Jeonnam (Damyang, Hwasun, Jangheung) was upgraded to a heatwave warning. This is about 21 days earlier compared to the first heatwave warning issued on July 26 last year in Gwangju and Damyang.
The areas under heatwave advisory include Naju, Gokseong, Gurye, Jangseong, Goheung, Boseong, Yeosu, Gwangyang, Suncheon, Gangjin, Haenam, Wando, Yeongam, Muan, Hampyeong, Yeonggwang, Mokpo, Sinan (excluding Heuksan-myeon), and Jindo in Jeonnam.
A heatwave warning is issued when the daily maximum perceived temperature is expected to remain at or above 35 degrees Celsius for two or more consecutive days, while a heatwave advisory is issued when the daily maximum perceived temperature is expected to remain at or above 33 degrees Celsius for two or more consecutive days.
The highest daytime temperatures on the 6th are expected to range from 28 to 33 degrees Celsius, and on the 7th, from 28 to 31 degrees Celsius.
There is also a forecast for rain on the 6th and 7th. The weather will generally be cloudy with occasional heavy clouds during the day. Expected precipitation amounts are 30 to 80 mm for Gwangju and northern Jeonnam, and 10 to 40 mm for southern Jeonnam.

A representative from the Gwangju Regional Meteorological Administration advised, "The maximum perceived temperature will rise above 33 degrees Celsius across all areas of Gwangju and Jeonnam where heatwave alerts are currently in effect, making it very hot. Please take care of your health, especially regarding heat-related illnesses and food poisoning."
