[One Day Walk] The Place of Wonhyo Daesa's Enlightenment... Pyeongtaek 46 Course
Pyeongtaek Port Marine Center~Hwaseong Ihwary Bus Stop
Section Length 13.9 km...Estimated Duration 4 Hours 50 Minutes
The Gyeonggi Dullegil ‘Pyeongtaek Course 46’ stretches from Pyeongtaek Port Marine Center to Pyeongtaek Port Promotion Hall, Wonjeong Intersection, Sudosa Temple, Namyang Embankment, and continues to Hwaseong Ihwari Bus Stop. The section length is 13.9 km, with an estimated duration of 4 hours and 50 minutes. The difficulty level is classified as ‘very easy.’
The starting stamp at Pyeongtaek Port Marine Center features an illustration of the Marine Center. Pyeongtaek Port Marine Center is a 15-story building constructed by Gyeonggi Province on land provided by the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries. It houses public institutions and companies related to the port. From the observation deck at the top, you can get a panoramic view of Pyeongtaek Port and the West Sea. It is also famous as a spot to see sunsets and nightscapes.
Starting the walk in front of Pyeongtaek Port Marine Center, you pass through the Asan National Industrial Complex Gyeonggi Poseung District. Passing by barren buildings and street trees placed here and there, you can see the Pyeongtaek Port Promotion Hall. Pyeongtaek Port serves as a gateway port to the Seoul metropolitan area and a comprehensive logistics hub in Northeast Asia, connecting the Korean economy with the world.
After leaving the industrial complex, you come to a village road, and at the end of the village road, you encounter a forest path. At the end of the short forest path awaits Sudosa Temple. Sudosa is known as the place where around 1,300 years ago, the monk Wonhyo, on his way to study in the Tang Dynasty, drank skull water and attained great enlightenment. It is said that Sudosa was located on the transportation route used by Silla people heading to Tang at that time. Sudosa, which has a statue of Haesu Gwaneum Bodhisattva symbolizing compassion, is a tranquil temple that prays for the peace of walking travelers. In 2017, the Wonhyo Enlightenment Experience Center was established at Sudosa, where visitors can enjoy the skull water story and experience Korean temple cuisine.
