An earthquake estimated to be magnitude 5.4 occurred on the 4th in the sea off Chiba Prefecture in the Tokyo metropolitan area of Japan.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, the earthquake occurred at 12:12 PM that day, 50 km deep in the sea off Chiba Prefecture southeast of Tokyo. The epicenter is located at 35.20 degrees north latitude and 140.50 degrees east longitude.

Shaking of seismic intensity 4 was confirmed in some areas of Chiba Prefecture.
Seismic intensity is a relative concept used by the Japan Meteorological Agency to indicate the degree of shaking felt by people or the extent of movement of surrounding objects in a given area, expressed on a scale from 0 to 7, unlike magnitude which represents the absolute strength. Intensity 4 means most people are startled, ceiling-hung lights shake, and unstable objects may fall.
