Chungnam Election Commission Files Complaints Against 3 Including General Election Support Group Representative
Providing 1,600 Beverages to Constituents... Allegations of False Reporting in Support Committee Expenses
The Chungcheongnam-do Election Commission announced that on the 2nd, it filed a complaint with the Cheonan Branch of the Daejeon District Prosecutors' Office against three individuals, including the head of a support committee, for violations of the Political Funds Act and other related laws in connection with the 22nd National Assembly election held on April 10.
They are accused of purchasing 1,600 beverages (worth approximately 2.7 million KRW), exceeding the usual beverage price range, and providing them to constituents visiting the support committee. After the election, they allegedly spent about 3.3 million KRW of the support committee's expenses on meals, reimbursed the amount, and then falsified supporting documents before reporting.
According to the Public Official Election Act, support committees registered under the Political Funds Act are prohibited from making any donations on behalf of candidates. The Political Funds Act also prohibits the use of political funds for private expenses or improper purposes, and forbids forging supporting documents or falsifying accounting records in reports.
