KIOST Holds Ceremony for 12th Anniversary of Opening and 51st Anniversary of Founding
The Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology (President Lee Heeseung, KIOST) held the '12th Anniversary of KIOST (51st Foundation Anniversary) Ceremony' on the 28th at the main auditorium of the KIOST Busan Headquarters (located in Yeongdo-gu, Busan).
At the ceremony, attended by President Lee Heeseung, Auditor Kim Ssangwoo, and staff members, the Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Commendation was awarded to contributors who have advanced the marine and fisheries sector in celebration of the 29th 'Ocean Day'.
The awardees are: Senior Researcher Lee Yeonju, Senior Researcher Oh Cheolhong, Senior Researcher Kim Taehun, Technician Kim Heungchan, and Administrator Park Jihyun. In celebration of the 29th Ocean Day, KIOST also recognized the following for their contributions: Senior Researcher Shin Kyungsun (Order of Science and Technology Merit, Dongbaek Medal), Senior Researcher Kang Dongjin (Order of Industrial Service Merit), and Senior Researcher Kim Yoonjae (Prime Minister's Commendation).
KIOST was founded in 1973 as the Marine Development Research Institute affiliated with the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST), and has grown and developed since its reestablishment as the Korea Institute of Ocean Science & Technology in 2012.
Lee Heeseung, President of KIOST, stated, "KIOST's growth into the nation's only comprehensive marine science research institute since its foundation has been possible thanks to the dedication and efforts of all its members," and added, "We will continue to conduct research and drive innovation to help address national issues and strengthen the country's maritime capabilities."
