Geochang County Launches 'Rural House Call Bus' to Address Shortage of Medical Facilities in Rural Areas
Free Comprehensive Medical Services Including Western and Oriental Medicine, Ophthalmology and Dental Checkups, and Disease Prevention Education for Medically Underserved Rural Villages
Geochang County in Gyeongnam announced on the 26th that it will operate the "Rural Visiting Medical Bus," which provides free comprehensive medical services such as Western and Korean medicine consultations, ophthalmology and dental checkups, disease management, and preventive education to residents aged 60 and over and farmers living in rural areas with insufficient medical facilities.

View original imageThe county was selected for two locations in the Rural Visiting Medical Bus project, a public contest organized by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, and will invest 48 million KRW to provide medical services to 480 residents in the Namgeochang Nonghyup area and Suseungdae Nonghyup area this year.
This year's first visiting medical bus started at the Namsang-myeon Eoullim Multipurpose Center, targeting residents of Namsang-myeon, Namha-myeon, and Sinwon-myeon in the Namgeochang Nonghyup area. About 30 medical staff from the Seoul Integrated Medical Volunteer Association provided surgical and internal medicine consultations, Seoul Haetsalmaru offered Korean medicine consultations, and Changwon Bom Optician conducted eye examinations and magnifying glass checkups, delivering medical services to elderly farmers in Namsang-myeon.
Meanwhile, on September 25, the Rural Visiting Medical Bus will be operated for residents of Buksang-myeon, Wicheon-myeon, and Mari-myeon in the Suseungdae Nonghyup area.
County Governor Ku Inmo said, "I hope this will be of some help to elderly residents in rural areas who have difficulty accessing medical institutions due to poor transportation and medical infrastructure," and added, "Through the Rural Visiting Medical Bus project, we aim to improve the health of farmers who are at risk of disappearing and provide an opportunity to enhance the quality of life for residents."
