The ‘Naju RE100 Energy Self-Reliant Village Research Group’ is a council research group led by Councilor Kim Gang-jeong, formed to propose the creation and development direction of an RE100-based energy self-reliant village suitable for Naju’s regional conditions and characteristics through the ‘Naju-type Energy Prosumer Sharing Economy Village Living Lab’ equipped with renewable energy facility experience installations and analysis of excellent domestic and international energy self-reliant village cases.
The advanced site visit was conducted from the 2nd to the 11th of last month in Germany, Denmark, Sweden, and France in Europe. At this presentation of results, research group members as well as related officials including the Director of the Future Strategy Industry Bureau of Naju City Hall who participated in the site visit attended.
At the presentation, the research group shared various advanced case study results including ▲establishment of waste treatment facilities near residential complexes ▲utilization of biogas energy ▲transition from nuclear power to eco-friendly energy (wind power) ▲solving urban heat island effects through urban planning reflecting natural waterways ▲building an energy self-reliant system centered on village communities, and presented plans for applying these to Naju City.
The Director of the Future Strategy Industry Bureau of Naju City Hall, who participated in the site visit, said, “In my 35 years of public service, I wonder if there has ever been a report meeting held in the form of a training result presentation,” and added, “I am impressed that the research group members personally funded the advanced site visit and even held a presentation on the results.”
He continued, “During this site visit, like the biogas pilot complex case in Gescher, Germany, we plan to research with the council ways to create a biogas pilot complex to produce energy using livestock manure and simultaneously solve our city’s chronic odor problem.”
Councilor Kim Gang-jeong, the representative of the Naju RE100 Energy Self-Reliant Village Research Group, said, “Currently, the global climate crisis is intensifying, increasing the importance of carbon neutrality, and South Korea cannot avoid this trend.”
He added, “Based on the experience of reviewing overseas cases, we will conduct in-depth research and develop renewable energy transition policies that can be realistically and effectively applied locally through such research group activities at the Naju City Council level, striving to make Naju a leader in energy self-reliance.”
