Gwangju Seo-gu Eul Democratic Party Regional Committee Completes Organizational Restructuring Prioritizing Trust of Citizens and Party Members
The Democratic Party of Korea's Gwangju Metropolitan City Seo-gu (Eul) District Committee (Chairman Yang Bu-nam) completed its organizational restructuring through the local delegates' convention held on the 22nd, taking the first step toward becoming a district committee trusted by citizens and party members.
The event, attended by local delegates, party members including Chairman Yang Bu-nam, and Seo-gu residents, was also graced by congratulatory speeches from National Assembly member Min Hyung-bae, Buk-gu Mayor Moon In, and Seo-gu Mayor Kim Yi-gang.
Despite heavy rain pouring from the morning, the convention hall was filled with local delegates and party members. The event began with the opening declaration by Chairman Yang Bu-nam, followed by a progress report from Park Chan-il, the preparation committee chair of the delegates' convention, and proceeded with the submission and approval of agenda items.
The final order of the delegates' convention included the reading of a declaration in which the Seo-gu (Eul) District Committee pledged to lead changes in Gwangju and the Democratic Party of Korea.
The declaration expressed a determination to start the change toward a "Democratic Party of Korea trusted by the people" beginning in Gwangju, amid the failure to fully win the hearts of the people even after the general election victory.
In particular, it emphasized that "Gwangju citizens sent a stern warning to the Democratic Party by showing the lowest voter turnout in history during the last local election and replacing most incumbent lawmakers in this general election," and stressed that "change must begin in Gwangju for the Democratic Party to heed the will of party members and the people and undergo a complete transformation."
The Seo-gu (Eul) District Committee declared its aim to "operate the party centered on party members, making the Democratic Party a party where members are at the core," and through this, expressed its ambition to "achieve the highest voter turnout and vote share in the upcoming local elections and lead the transformation into a Democratic Party trusted by citizens, laying the foundation for a change of government."
