Both lawmakers, having directly listened to the voices of local residents during the April elections and possessing a clear understanding of the region’s circumstances, engaged in in-depth discussions on strategies for advancing key projects and securing national funding?policies that require cooperation between the National Assembly and the local government.
Major topics included the establishment of a medical school, follow-up projects for secondary batteries, designation as a national advanced strategic industry bio-specialized complex, designation as a hydrogen-specialized complex, expansion of additional industrial complexes centered on new industries, and the early construction of seawater desalination facilities.
Additionally, wisdom was gathered on recent hot local issues such as communication strategies with residents regarding the construction of three essential facilities: a memorial park, Green Bio Park, and Eco Village.
In particular, following President Yoon Sukyeol’s promise on the 20th at a public forum in Gyeongsan to support local projects such as the hydrogen fuel cell cluster, advanced manufacturing incubating center, construction of the Yeongilman Transoceanic Expressway, establishment of the East Sea Defense History and Culture Center, and Homigot National Marine Ecological Park, the participants agreed to cooperate for the swift implementation of these projects.
Mayor Lee Kangdeok stated, “I will continue to closely communicate with the National Assembly members representing Pohang and thoroughly address local issues,” and added, “I ask for the active cooperation of local lawmakers in policy implementation so that Pohang can lead the development of Korea.”
Representative Kim Jungjae said, “I will do my best to actively convey the region’s needs to central government ministries and achieve tangible results,” adding, “With many internal and external issues facing the region, I will actively cooperate with Pohang City to resolve them together.”
Representative Lee Sanghui remarked, “Since many of the pledges made to citizens align with current local issues, there are many tasks for cooperation,” and continued, “I will strengthen communication with Pohang City in promoting large-scale national projects for local issues and industrial restructuring, so that the local economy can be revitalized and Pohang can become a central city on the East Coast.”
