The '2024 DebConf24' will be held at the Daeyeon Campus of Pukyong National University for 15 days from July 21 to August 4.

Debian refers to an operating system composed solely of free and open-source software (SW). Well-known operating systems developed based on Debian include Ubuntu, Linux Mint distributions, and Kali Linux.
Every year, about 1,000 Debian developers worldwide, including developers from global companies, participate in the Debian Project, the world's largest Linux distribution development project, aiming to develop an 'operating system made only with free software.'
Celebrating its 25th edition this year, 'DebConf' is the world's largest annual conference led by Debian developers to develop the Debian operating system. Since 2000, it has been held annually in different countries.
The conference will not only feature a development camp but also around 90 sessions of lectures and presentations by developers from around the world, as well as educational programs, thereby strengthening the capabilities and human networks of local developers and communities.
This year's event consists of: ▲ 'DebCamp,' a Debian OS development camp ▲ 'DebConf,' a conference featuring 90 lectures and seminars on 10 topics related to the Debian OS and software development ▲ 'Job Fair,' which includes technology and product exhibitions and recruitment booths by domestic and international sponsor companies.
'DebCamp' is a Debian OS development camp running for 7 days from July 21 to 27. Over 200 Debian developers from around the world will participate, and attendees can directly observe and experience the Debian OS development process and even take part in development onsite.
'DebConf' will be held for 8 days from July 28 to August 4, covering: ① Introduction to free software and Debian ② Packaging, policy, and Debian infrastructure ③ System administration, automation, and orchestration ④ Cloud and containers ⑤ Security ⑥ Community, diversity, local participation, and social context ⑦ Internationalization, localization, and accessibility ⑧ Embedded systems and kernel (the core computer program of an operating system) ⑨ Debian in art and science ⑩ Debian blends and Debian-based distributions, with lectures and presentations on these topics.
The 'Job Fair' will take place on July 28 from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Convention Hall on the 4th floor of the Mirae Building at Pukyong National University. Technology and product exhibitions and recruitment booths by domestic and overseas sponsor companies will be available, offering students and job seekers opportunities to consult with local and international companies. Companies are also expected to find talent through recruitment consultations and explore overseas markets.
In addition, various side events such as ▲Debian Day ▲Day Trip ▲Conference Dinner will be held.
This event is a prime example of cooperation that goes beyond the city's pursuit of industry-academia-research-government collaboration, encompassing various developer communities (Debian Korea, Ubuntu Korea Community, Cplusplus Korea, OpenInfra Korea User Group, etc.). In particular, more than 50 community volunteer organizing committee members from Korea and abroad are dedicating significant time and effort to prepare for the event.

Shin Changho, Director of the Digital Economy Innovation Office of the city, stated, "It is very encouraging that the developer conference for the Debian operating system, which is widely used in server and artificial intelligence (AI) fields, is being held in Busan. We expect that DebConf will be a crucial turning point for the development and promotion of the information and communication industry in Busan. The city will provide support to ensure the successful hosting of DebConf in Busan and make it a foundation for nurturing customized, highly skilled ICT professionals needed by local companies."
