More than 1,600 Filth Balloons Apparently Released by North Korea
310 Items Confirmed Only from the Night of the 9th to the Morning of the 10th
It has been confirmed that North Korea released about 310 filth balloons toward South Korea from the night of the 9th to the morning of the 10th. The total number of filth balloons released by North Korea in four recent instances is estimated to exceed 1,600.
On the 10th, the Joint Chiefs of Staff announced, "At around 9:40 PM the previous night, we informed the press corps at the Ministry of National Defense via text message that North Korea was releasing additional filth balloons." They added, "The contents of the balloons are waste such as waste paper and plastic," and "So far, analysis results show no hazardous materials."

Previously, North Korea released filth balloons twice at the end of last month and early this month, using the South Korean civic groups' leaflet distribution toward the North as a pretext, with about 1,000 balloons identified in the South.
