Elegant Youths and Delivery Union Jointly Conduct 'Rider Risk Assessment'
Proactive Investigation for Rider Safety
Continuous Monitoring of Additional Improvements Through Regular Risk Assessments
Woowa Brothers, the logistics service provider for Baedal Minjok (Baemin), announced on the 10th that it conducted a risk assessment for the safety of platform workers, specifically riders, in collaboration with the Delivery Platform Workers' Union of the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU) Service Federation, the representative union for negotiations.
Woowa Brothers explained that, despite the unclear obligations and responsible parties for risk assessments of platform workers, they voluntarily and proactively conducted the risk assessment to ensure rider safety.
This risk assessment was conducted in the form of a survey together with the Delivery Platform Workers' Union of the KCTU Service Federation. The survey was carried out from April 17 to 26 in the metropolitan area and other regions to capture the vivid field experiences and practical improvement points from riders who actually perform deliveries. Riders evaluated 34 factors that could potentially cause accidents throughout the entire delivery process, from pickup to handover, while performing deliveries. To enhance objectivity, all surveys were conducted face-to-face with the presence of union officials and Woowa Brothers staff.
The results showed that the risk related to "road environment factors" occurring on the road during operation was high. Factors requiring improvement included slipping accidents caused by deteriorated road conditions due to rain or snow (9.89 points), accidents caused by other drivers’ signal violations or speeding (8.76 points), and slipping accidents due to poor road conditions (7.84 points), all scored out of 20 points. Woowa Brothers also stated that they plan to continuously monitor other factors through regular risk assessments.
