South Korea Elected as ILO Governing Body Member for a 3-Year Term

The Ministry of Employment and Labor announced on the 7th that South Korea has been elected as a government representative member of the International Labour Organization (ILO) at the 112th ILO General Assembly currently being held in Geneva, Switzerland.
The ILO Governing Body, a tripartite organization consisting of labor, management, and government representatives, is composed of 56 regular members (28 government representatives and 14 each from labor and employers) and 66 deputy members (28 government representatives and 19 each from labor and employers).
This marks the sixth time South Korea has become a regular government member of the ILO since joining in 1991. Since 2021, South Korea has served as a deputy member.

The term for regular membership will begin on the 15th and last for three years. According to the Ministry of Employment and Labor, regular members have voting rights on major decisions such as the ILO budget, financial statements, key business plans, and the election of the Director-General at the regular Governing Body meetings held every March, June, and October. Deputy members do not have voting rights.
