Over 4,000 participants from more than 60 organizations and groups, including the Nuclear Safety and Security Commission, the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, 16 local districts, Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, and local military units, took part in the event.
The drill simulated a radioactive leak at Gori Unit 4, evacuating about 1,000 residents and students from 21 villages within the Precautionary Action Zone (PAZ) to Gangseo Sports Park, located 30 km away, using trains and buses.
Daedong Hospital, along with Busan National University Hospital, Ulsan University Hospital, Gyeongsang National University Hospital, and the Dongnam Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences, was stationed at the radiation emergency medical post. Nurses, paramedics, medical technologists, and administrative staff familiarized themselves with and practiced their respective duties and roles during the drill.
Additionally, at the radiation impact counseling center set up in the Gangseo Sports Park gymnasium, information was provided on how to pack an emergency disaster bag, evacuation procedures during disasters, and the health impacts and emergency response measures in the event of radiation exposure.
Jae Sungwook, head nurse of the Daedong Hospital Regional Emergency Medical Center, who participated in the drill, said, “Doctors, nurses, paramedics, medical technologists, and administrative staff all faithfully performed their assigned duties and worked together as one to protect the health and lives of local residents. It was a valuable time to train as a team,” adding, “Even in the chaos of a disaster site, we were able to strengthen our professional and rapid medical response system.”
