Dongjak-gu Supports Free Installation of Three Types of Flood Prevention Facilities
Aging Sewer Pipeline Maintenance Across 15 Buildings Before Rainy Season Including Check Valves, Backflow Prevention Valves, and Operable Security Windows -
Dongjak-gu (Mayor Park Il-ha) is making every effort to protect the safety of residents by installing three types of flood prevention facilities and maintaining major sewage facilities in the area before the rainy season begins, in preparation for heavy summer rains.
First, the district will provide free installation of three types of flood prevention facilities for residents of houses and commercial buildings at risk of flooding: ▲water barriers (floodgates), ▲backflow prevention valves, and ▲security windows that also function as flood barriers with open/close capability.
This support project aims to prevent rainwater from entering or backflowing into buildings and to help residents in low-lying areas evacuate safely by opening security windows during disasters.
If installation of flood prevention facilities such as water barriers is needed, residents can apply at their local community service center. The district will conduct on-site inspections to assess flood risk and install the appropriate facilities based on the surrounding environment and building conditions.
For detailed information on how to apply for flood prevention facilities, please contact the Water Management Division.
Additionally, the district plans to invest a total of approximately 9 billion KRW from district and city funds to carry out improvement works on 6.9 km of public sewage pipelines throughout the district, which began in March and are expected to be completed by mid-June.
The inspection and maintenance targets include ▲293 m section of Siheung-daero 638 to 668-3 on main roads, ▲427 m area around Noryangjin-ro 114 in residential side streets, ▲480 m area near Heukseok Hangang-ro 2, and ▲218 m area near Heukseok-ro 97.
In particular, extensive inspections and maintenance will focus on aging and deteriorated sewage pipelines to prevent major accidents such as road collapses and ground subsidence, and to proactively resolve habitual flooding damage.
Furthermore, last month, dredging operations were completed by deploying dredgers, trucks, manpower, and equipment to remove accumulated soil and debris from 61 km of sewage pipelines and 17,000 rainwater inlets in flood-prone areas.
By June, sediment removal and illegal cover collection will continue across all 15 neighborhoods, targeting a total of 305 km of sewage pipelines and 23,723 rainwater inlets. Through these efforts, the district plans to prevent disasters and odors caused by sewage backflow and improve the residential environment.
