Chungnam Province to Publish Multicultural Digital Newspaper Starting September
Existing Multicultural Newspaper Efficiency Declines, Complete Revision Underway
The Chungnam Province is establishing a multicultural digital newspaper to improve accessibility for multicultural families.
According to the province on the 27th, the number of multicultural families in the Chungnam area reached 61,982 last year, steadily increasing every year since 2018. The proportion of multicultural families is 2.8%, ranking 5th nationwide.
Since 2018, the province has been publishing a multicultural newspaper monthly to deliver local news to the growing number of multicultural families. However, the analog print format has been criticized for being inefficient for multicultural families who have limited Korean language proficiency.
The province plans to establish a multicultural digital newspaper by September, applying multilingual translation services as a pilot project, and will fully implement it starting next year.
