Samsung Partners Join Saudi Daran City 5G Open RAN Preparation
Samsung Electronics is participating as a partner in the initial phase of Saudi Arabia's first Open RAN (ORAN·Open Radio Access Network) project being carried out in Daran City.

View original imageAccording to industry sources on the 27th, the official Saudi government X (formerly Twitter) account announced on the 26th that a large-scale Open RAN laboratory project will commence in Daran City, home to the headquarters of Saudi Aramco, the world's largest state-owned oil company.
Open RAN is a technology that builds various software required for operating network equipment in an open manner. It enables the management and maintenance of 5G and 6G networks based on cloud technology.
The laboratory will accelerate innovation using 5G Open RAN technology within the infrastructure of Daran City and promote research and development based on 5G Open RAN industry design. Through this, it aims to support Saudi Arabia's emergence as a center of technological innovation.
The official Saudi government X account formalized this project and introduced that Samsung Electronics, along with Aramco and Aramco's strategic partners, is participating in the early stages of the project.

Earlier, in March of last year, Samsung Electronics signed a memorandum of understanding with Aramco to cooperate on a preliminary plan to localize the industrial 5G technology ecosystem in Saudi Arabia, starting with private networks. The agreement aims to contribute to the digital transformation of various Saudi industries such as energy, petrochemicals, and manufacturing by utilizing advanced 5G technologies.
