Pukyong National University Holds Training on Strengthening Aquaculture Capacity in Zanzibar, Tanzania
Graduation Ceremony on the 24th, 15 Senior and Working-level Officials from Zanzibar Participate
Pukyong National University (President Jang Youngsoo) held a completion ceremony for the "Capacity Building Program for Aquaculture Farms in Zanzibar, Tanzania" on the first floor of the Dongwon Jangbogo Hall on the afternoon of the 24th.

View original imageThis training program, which was held over two weeks starting from the 13th, was attended by 15 participants, including high-ranking officials such as vice ministers and directors from the Ministry of Blue Economy and Fisheries, the Ministry of Finance and Planning, and the Ministry of Trade and Industrial Development of Zanzibar, Tanzania, as well as aquaculture technicians from marine hatcheries and national research institutes.
Over the two weeks, they received education on theory, practical training, and field trips to strengthen their technical capacity in sea cucumber aquaculture at Pukyong National University and the Gyeongnam Fisheries Resources Research Institute, among others.
Pukyong National University, under the supervision of the Graduate School of Global Fisheries and the International Cooperative Program in Fisheries Science, launched this training as the first phase of a three-year project supported by the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) to increase the production of high-value aquaculture species in Zanzibar, Tanzania.
Tanzania is carrying out various projects with KOICA's support to vitalize the aquaculture industry in Zanzibar.
Following this project, Pukyong National University plans to hold on-site training in Zanzibar in 2025 and an invitation-based training program in 2026, thereby strengthening marine aquaculture technology in the Zanzibar region and contributing to increasing the income of local fishers.
