'Biden's second son' Hunter's tax evasion trial postponed to September
The trial related to tax evasion charges against Hunter Biden, the second son of U.S. President Joe Biden, has been postponed to September.
On the 22nd (local time), CNN reported that Hunter's tax evasion trial was delayed from the original June 20 to September 5. Hunter's defense team requested the postponement to avoid overlapping trials, citing that a trial related to illegal firearm possession would begin on June 3.
This trial has attracted attention as it will be the first criminal trial involving a child of a sitting president. Hunter previously attempted a plea deal with prosecutors but ultimately failed. He is charged with failing to pay federal taxes on over $1.5 million in taxable income earned in 2017 and 2018. Additionally, he is undergoing a separate trial for allegedly violating laws by possessing a handgun in October 2018 despite knowing he was a drug addict who used illegal substances.
Local media are focusing on the fact that President Biden’s second son is facing two trials as the president embarks on a full-scale campaign ahead of the November presidential election. His competitor, former President Donald Trump, is also currently undergoing a trial related to a 'sexual misconduct hush money' case. Trump must face a total of four criminal trials.
