Suspect in 20s in 'Geoje Ex-Girlfriend Assault Death Case' Sent to Prosecution
A man in his 20s, suspected of assaulting and causing the death of his ex-girlfriend, has been handed over to the prosecution.
Geoje Police Station in Gyeongnam announced on the 22nd that they referred Mr. A, in his 20s, to the Tongyeong Branch of the Changwon District Prosecutors' Office on charges including injury resulting in death.
Mr. A is accused of violently beating his ex-girlfriend, Ms. B, also in her 20s, on the head and face and strangling her at around 8 a.m. on the 1st of last month, resulting in her death during hospital treatment.
It was found that he broke into Ms. B's studio apartment in Geoje after she did not keep a promise to meet the previous day and committed the crime.
Ms. B suffered serious injuries from Mr. A's assault, was diagnosed with a traumatic subdural hemorrhage and other injuries requiring six weeks of treatment, and passed away on the 10th from multiple organ failure caused by sepsis while hospitalized.
The parents of the victim in the former girlfriend assault death case in Geoje, Gyeongnam, are entering the Changwon District Court Tongyeong Branch to submit a petition urging severe punishment for the perpetrator.

Previously, the National Forensic Service had verbally stated that the cause of Ms. B's death was not assault.
However, after a detailed autopsy requested by the police, they reported that it was highly likely Ms. B died from complications due to head injuries.
Based on the results of the detailed examination, the police applied for an arrest warrant for Mr. A, and the court issued the warrant, citing concerns of flight risk.
The bereaved family said, "Even during the process of being handed over to the prosecution, the perpetrator showed no sign of remorse, such as bowing his head to us," and added, "We sincerely hope he will be properly judged by the law."
"We expect a wise verdict from the court and are now preparing for our daughter's funeral," they added. "We will stay strong until the trial results are out."
