‘Spring Rural Labor Support’ in Action... Cheongsong County Works Hard to Help Farms Facing Labor Shortages
Cheongsong County in North Gyeongsang Province is launching a 'Spring Rural Labor Support' program to assist farms facing difficulties such as labor shortages and rising labor costs during the peak farming season.
With the ongoing decline in rural population and aging demographics, the challenges for local farms are intensifying. From mid-May to early June, the county plans to deploy around 150 personnel, including officials from various departments and townships, giving priority to farms run by the elderly, women, single-person households, and long-term patients who face particular difficulties with farming work.
In particular, the shortage of labor is leading to higher wages, further increasing the burden on farms. To prevent disruptions in farming activities due to lack of manpower, the county is encouraging not only public officials but also institutions and local organizations to participate in rural labor support efforts.
County Governor Yoon Kyunghee stated, "Every farming season, the chronic labor shortage deepens the concerns of rural communities. We will spare no effort in providing support and attention to help alleviate the worries of our farmers and overcome these challenges together."
