West Sea Coast Guard Agency Launches Civil-Military Joint Marine Environment Conservation Activities to Commemorate Sea Day
Marine Debris Cleanup Activities and Campaign to Prevent Illegal Discharge of Pollutants
The West Sea Regional Coast Guard Agency (Chief Kim Inchang) announced on the 20th that it will engage in marine environmental conservation activities to create a clean sea for six weeks from the 13th of this month to the 21st of next month, in celebration of the 29th "Sea Day" on the 31st.
"Sea Day" is a legally designated commemorative day established in 1996 to raise public awareness of the importance of the sea and to enhance the pride of maritime workers.
On the occasion of the 29th 'Sea Day,' marine environmental conservation activities have been underway since the 13th to create a clean sea.

The marine police stations under the West Sea Coast Guard Agency will conduct joint civil-government-military underwater and coastal marine debris collection activities starting on the 28th around the Saemangeum Seawall Sinchi Port to Yamido area, on the 30th at Buan Galyeokdo Port, and on the 31st at Yeongam Geumho Seawall, Jangheung Sumun Beach, and Yeosu Dolsan Gunnae-ri.
Meanwhile, to preserve carbon sinks, regionally distinctive activities such as planting and transplanting halophytic plants to create sea forests, and blue carbon protection education and promotion targeting maritime workers and youth will be conducted simultaneously.
In particular, to prevent marine pollution caused by plastic waste from fishing vessels, the "Woosangsun Project (Bring Back Our Water Bottles and Recycle Them)" will be promoted in collaboration with related organizations to collect and recycle water bottles generated on fishing vessels as resources.
