US Expresses Concern Over Potential Misuse by China in First AI Talks with China
As the United States held its first artificial intelligence (AI) related talks with China, the U.S. expressed concerns about the potential misuse of AI by China.
Adrian Watson, spokesperson for the U.S. National Security Council (NSC), stated on the 15th (local time), "The United States has confirmed the need to maintain open lines of communication regarding the risks and safety issues of AI as an important part of managing responsible competition."
The delegations from both countries held AI-related talks in Geneva, Switzerland, the previous day, exchanging views on approaches to managing AI risks and safety.
The United States emphasized that it is important for both developing and developed countries to use the benefits of AI for sustainable development. To this end, it stressed the importance of ensuring that AI systems are safe and reliable, and continuously building international consensus on this matter.
Additionally, the NSC stated that the U.S. raised concerns about the misuse of AI, including cases involving China.
