About 10 Former Minister-Level Figures from TK Visit Gyeongbuk Province for Policy Meeting... Including Kim Kyunghan, Park Chulun, and Kim Hangyu
The ‘Daegyeonghoe’ (President Kim Kyunghan, former Minister of Justice), a gathering of former minister-level figures from Daegu and Gyeongbuk, is visiting Gyeongbuk Province for two days from the 13th to the 14th, holding a policy meeting and a Gyeongbuk Love Workshop.
Lee Cheolwoo, Governor of Gyeongbuk Province, said at the policy meeting with Daegyeonghoe members who visited the provincial office on the 13th, “I sincerely welcome the distinguished former ministers who once led the government and have come to their hometown, Gyeongbuk,” adding, “I expect that the policy meeting with these experienced former ministers will be a great opportunity to solve major issues in Gyeongbuk.”
The governor continued, “Last year, Gyeongbuk Province secured new national industrial complexes equivalent to the size of 800 soccer fields through attracting semiconductor and battery specialized complexes, Andong Bio-Life National Industrial Complex, Uljin Nuclear Hydrogen National Industrial Complex, and Gyeongju SMR National Industrial Complex, and attracted investments worth 14 trillion won,” emphasizing, “Currently, we are striving for the ‘war against low birthrate,’ the establishment of Daegu-Gyeongbuk Airport, investment attraction, and designation of Gyeongbuk Bio National Advanced Strategic Industry Specialized Complex.”
Governor Lee concluded, “I ask the former ministers to actively promote the major achievements and current issues of Gyeongbuk Province’s administration in the Seoul metropolitan area, and to support the development of their hometown through organic cooperation with central government ministries.”
In response, Kim Kyunghan (80), the president, expressed gratitude for the warm welcome and stated, “I will communicate through various channels via juniors in central government ministries to solve major regional issues such as hometown development and overcoming low birthrate.”
Former Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Park Cheoreon (82) also showed great interest in Gyeongbuk’s innovative policies by asking about the establishment of a self-fund to revitalize 100 billion won of private investment in Gyeongbuk and the investment policy for nurturing 20,000 semiconductor professionals over ten years.
Following this, the workshop schedule included visits to SK Bioscience Andong Plant and Andong Soju Factory within the Gyeongbuk Bio Industrial Complex, the Korea Institute of Korean Studies, Yi Yuksa Literature Museum, Dosan Seowon Confucian Cultural Training Center, and Bongjeongsa Temple, enhancing their understanding of Gyeongbuk.
Daegyeonghoe held its first meeting in November 2001 and elected former Minister of National Defense Jeong Hoyong as its inaugural president. Currently, it has 45 members, and the 11th president, former Minister of Justice Kim Kyunghan, leads the group.
