Gyeonggi-do to Hold Parents' Day Event on the 7th... Commendation and Encouragement for Meritorious Persons
Gyeonggi Province held the '52nd Parents' Day Commemoration Event' on the 7th and awarded commendations to meritorious individuals.
On this day, Gyeonggi Province held the '52nd Parents' Day' commemoration event at Suwon Noblesse Wedding Convention and announced that it awarded commendations to 15 meritorious persons, including filial children and honorable parents who contributed to spreading the spirit of respect for the elderly and promoting elderly welfare.
Kim Dong-yeon, Governor of Gyeonggi Province, who is 'on a business trip to North America,' conveyed a video congratulatory message, saying, "I sincerely congratulate the 52nd Parents' Day and express my respect and gratitude to the elders who have made today possible by building healthy families through their sacrifices," adding, "I will do my best to serve the elderly as if serving my own parents so that Gyeonggi Province shines with the wisdom and experience of the elders and becomes a filial Gyeonggi Province."
He continued, "I hope the elders enjoy their favorite sports such as park golf and gateball to the fullest, gaining vitality in life themselves and playing meaningful roles for society," and promised, "We will also carefully manage the Mind Care Project to ensure they do not feel lonely."
Governor Kim Dong-yeon departed on the 6th for the United States and Canada to attract investment and expand exchange and cooperation.
Meanwhile, as of the end of March 2024, the population aged 65 and over in the province is approximately 2.162 million, accounting for 15.9% of the total population of about 13.64 million, entering an aged society. If this trend continues, by 2028, the proportion of the population aged 65 and over will exceed 20%, entering a super-aged society.
Gyeonggi Province is currently promoting projects by selecting four key focus areas to ensure that the elderly live healthy and happy lives: providing jobs for the elderly, strengthening meticulous care, supporting healthy old age, and revitalizing leisure culture.
In addition, to alleviate social isolation and loneliness among the elderly, the province is promoting the ‘Gyeonggi Elderly Mind Care’ project using artificial intelligence (AI). For elderly people excluded from existing public care services, the ‘AI Elderly Companion Service’ using artificial intelligence is being expanded to prevent blind spots in care. Various elderly welfare policies are also being implemented, including low-income elderly support projects such as ‘free meals and meal delivery,’ ‘winter heating expenses,’ and ‘health insurance premium’ support to improve elderly nutrition.
