Yongin-si Promotes Joining WHO Age-Friendly Cities International Network
Establishing Basic Plan to Proceed with 55 Related Projects
Yongin City in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 7th that it has applied to join the "World Health Organization (WHO) Age-friendly Cities International Network."
To this end, the city established a "Basic Plan for Creating an Age-friendly City" to address issues that may arise in an aging society and proceeded with the related certification process. Through this, it aims to promote social integration between generations and build a systematic welfare policy.
Previously, the city enacted an ordinance for creating an age-friendly city in 2022, and last year conducted a research project with the Yongin City Policy Research Institute to promote certification for the Age-friendly Cities International Network.
Based on the research results, the city set the vision of "A Special Future Made Together, Yongin Special City," and established three main goals: ▲creating a safe and secure living environment for all citizens ▲realizing social integration where intergenerational understanding and respect for the elderly are ensured ▲building a healthy and comfortable welfare system for old age.
For the elderly in the region, the city plans to implement 55 projects over three years, including ▲expanding senior job opportunities ▲creating augmented reality (AR) sports experience spaces ▲customized care services for the elderly ▲support projects for dementia patients ▲operation of an age-friendly city monitoring team ▲and on-site repair services for minor breakdowns in single elderly households.
The city expects to receive age-friendly city certification in September once the international network membership process is completed.
