Film Master Director Lee Chang-dong Talks About 'May Gwangju'
A towering figure in the Korean film industry, director Lee Chang-dong, will meet with citizens in Gwangju this May.
Gwangsan-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, will hold the first Gwangsan Academy of the year at the Gwangsan Culture and Arts Center on the 16th.
The Gwangsan Academy is a lifelong learning liberal arts lecture series for citizens and public officials operated by Gwangsan-gu since last year. This year, under the theme "The Future of Gwangsan Imagined Together by Everyone," distinguished figures from various fields are invited to create a humanities communication platform that stimulates citizens' imagination.
Director Lee, a towering figure in the Korean film industry well known for works such as "Peppermint Candy," "Oasis," "Miryang," and "Burning," will give the first lecture titled "May Gwangju and the Film Peppermint Candy."
Following this, the lectures will continue with ▲ writer Jung Ji-ah’s "People Who Became History: 'Father’s Liberation Diary'" (June 20) ▲ pianist Kim Yong-bae’s "Classics Filled with Heart" (July 18) ▲ architect Cho Byung-soo’s "Curtain and Emptiness: Sophistication in Roughness, Carefreeness in Sophistication" (September 26) ▲ Professor Lee Hyung-yeon of Chonnam National University Medical School’s "Healthy Life in the Era of 100 Years, The Path to Blessing" (October 17) ▲ urban planning designer Cho Yong-jun’s "Change the City to Be Happier" (November 21).
The Gwangsan Academy is open to all citizens. Detailed schedules and applications can be made through the Gwangsan-gu lifelong learning portal "Baeurangkke." Past lectures can also be viewed again on "Baeurangkke."
