Gyeonggi Fire Department, 119 Paramedics Establish 'Green Dove Pledge'
The Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters has established the ‘119 Paramedic Green-Dove Oath’.
Green-Dove was newly created this time, reflecting the history of designating a dove on a green background as the symbol of paramedics. Green signifies the ‘resurrection of life,’ and the dove symbolizes ‘peace.’
The Fire and Disaster Headquarters explained that while there are oaths for each life-related field?such as the ‘Hippocratic Oath’ for doctors, the ‘Nightingale Pledge’ for nurses, and the ‘Star of Life Oath’ for emergency medical technicians?there was no oath for paramedics until now, which led to the establishment of this oath.
The Green-Dove Oath consists of five pledges, including the fundamental principles of the paramount duty to protect the lives and safety of the public as 119 paramedics, fostering safety and mutual cooperation among patients, colleagues, and oneself, cultivating medical ethics awareness, and raising awareness of paramedics’ professional pride and sense of mission.
This oath will be read aloud at the appointment ceremony for new paramedics starting this year.
Jo Seon-ho, head of the Gyeonggi-do Fire and Disaster Headquarters, stated, "We expect that new 119 paramedics will be inspired with pride and a sense of mission through the oath ceremony," and added, "We hope they will strive even harder as professional paramedics providing high-quality emergency services to the residents."
