CU and BigWalk Donate 13 Million Won to Improve Housing Conditions for Descendants of Independence Activists
BGF Retail, the operator of convenience store CU, announced on the 6th that it donated 13 million won to the non-profit organization Korea Habitat to improve the living conditions of descendants of independence activists.
The donation was raised through the "Step Donation Campaign" conducted this year in celebration of the 105th anniversary of the March 1st Movement, in collaboration with the social enterprise "Big Walk." In this campaign, customers donate the cumulative number of steps they walk or run via the Big Walk application.
The campaign was a great success with 22,000 participants. The donated steps reached 2.063 billion, double the target of 1 billion steps. Converted into distance, this equals 1.44 million kilometers, which is equivalent to traveling back and forth between Seoul and Busan 2,250 times. As the campaign exceeded its goal, CU contributed 10 million won, and in response, Big Walk also donated 3 million won.
